What am I looking at?

Two national weather services, four models, one colour scale. From the Met Office: the UKV, its 2 km model over Britain, Ireland and the near continent, a fresh run every three hours to 54 hours; the Global at 10 km to seven days; and the global Wave model. From Met Éireann: HARMONIE — HARMONIE-AROME at 2 km on the DINI domain it runs with the Danish, Dutch and Icelandic services, to 60 hours.

UKV and HARMONIE are both 2 km convection-permitting models, built by different people on different physics, and they are drawn here through identical palettes. Switching model holds the valid time, not the forecast hour, so flipping between them at one instant shows exactly where the two services' forecasts for Ireland disagree — the frontal timing, the shower bands off the Atlantic, the wind on the west coast.

Fields are drawn from the published model output with no smoothing and no rescaling; every pixel reads back its value under the pointer. The map's scales are the Met Office's (°C, mph, hPa); the town pages speak km/h. HARMONIE's sea-level pressure is reduced here from its surface pressure, and its total cloud combined here from its three cloud layers. For warnings, Met Éireann (and in Northern Ireland the Met Office) is always the authority.
